Chicken Nipple Drinker
I got fed up watching the chickens fouling their water each day scratching muck into it, so I did a bit of research and found this alternative. It's called a chicken nipple drinker. The little red 'nipples' possess a button in the middle that the chickens peck releasing a couple drops of water. Let me show you. This is actually the same way I taught the chickens to use it. Once I caught their thirsty attention, dribbling a bit of water out, one started madly pecking away. The others then picked up the trick in seconds. I couldn't believe how quickly they figured it out. Chickens definitely aren't as clueless as they sometimes look... I just love this new watering system. It is so much less work to clean than the previous open waterer. I've also noted a marked reduction in the incidents of diarrhoea amongst the chickens. That is such a relief.
